The aim of la malterie’s audience research activities was to understand the profile of its exhibition audience and to study the impact of the exhibitions in the neighbourhood and the spread of audiences between exhibitions and concerts. Questionnaires collected information on the geographical spread of the audience, their knowledge of la malterie’s activities and the impact of la malterie’s communications (though these priorities had to be adapted when collecting audience data during off-site exhibitions). Responses were collected at previews and the public openings of exhibitions and at concerts and the results were used to inform la malterie’s approach to audience development.
